Using email to mine your database

A good prospect database can be the key to riches. This is especially true if you can divide your database into key groups. You might have different lists of people who buy several items at a time, people who always respond to lower prices, and people who need a certain item replenished from time to time.

A while back I talked at length with Internet veteran Rob Bell.
With programming chops like I can only dream about, Rob figured out a way to interface autoresponders with web site forms and a database.

When someone visits his site ( http://webcontactpro.com ), he uses forms to get their info. This data is automatically plugged into a database. He can sort for particular kinds of prospects, then broadcast an email sales letter carefully tailored for that specific group.

One especially simple way to get this effect is to offer not one, but three email newsletters. Direct each one to major groups of customers. Describe each on your website and ask visitors to subscribe to one or more. You can be sure those who do are very interested customers who are now on a list targeting at least one of their major interests.
