Doorway page - Why are they no good?

The Holy Grail for a successful search engine optimization campaign is high ranking. Most companies offering online marketing services will insist that doorway pages are your best bet towards getting a high page rank. What exactly is a doorway page? This is a kind of an ‘invisible’ web page – accessible not to your visitors but only to a search engine. These are formatted in such a way to guarantee being picked up by a search engine ostensibly. They are just crammed with keywords in a way that insures a high rank. Sometimes they are also called gateway or bridge pages. However, the feedback on doorway pages is not good. In fact, most webmasters would suggest that you shun them altogether.

Search engines are not looking towards keyword optimization only as a criterion for a high page rank. Their algorithms take into account good and useful content too. Doorway pages fail miserably in this regards. If your site features content that is great, it will rank higher, regardless of the density of he keyword on the page. Most webmasters agree that doorway pages are a wasted effort. If you are going to invest your energies into producing a web page with optimal keyword density, then why are you not putting the same amount of effort into doing this for the rest of your website? This way, all the pages on your site will function like a ‘doorway’ page. Since a doorway page is not linked to your website and actually does not even provide informative content, it might end up hurting your ranking.

Most webmasters agree that doorway pages just clutter up a search engine. This in turn reduces the functionality of the said search engine. Many search engines have wised up to the idea of doorway pages and have started to actually delete them from their databases. They do not allow web sites with doorway pages into their databases anymore. The secret to a high page ranking is good content. A thoughtfully created webpage would naturally utilize keywords in the best possible manner. Visitors are encouraged to click through a website only when they find the content provided by it to be informative and helpful. This in turn translates into higher sales. The main page of your website should be your area of focus – a solid strategy for search engine optimization.
